Inspired by the Gamble House which was built by the Greene Brothers in Pasadena California in 1908, the current owners have meticulously maintained, restored and updated their 1909, American Arts & Crafts, classic bungalow.

Notice the traditional Arts & Crafts features including classic Tudor Brown exterior paint (2007) featured in the early period (1891-1910-15)of this design era. On the porch you will see traditional post features and a "6 & 2" shingle pattern used on about 10-15% of the Arts & Crafts houses at the time.

The interior features untouched, richly stained, original woodwork, beamed ceilings and quarter sawn, oak hardwood floors. The clinker brick fireplace was added in the 1920's and features an efficient Avalon insert. The main floor living and dining room has built-in bookcases, window seats with storage and a new custom, fir, double pane, argon filled window. A peaceful sunroom is located off the living room on the west side of the house. Several of the original windows have aged gracefully over the years and are in good condition. The main floor bedroom has a separate office space (yoga, meditation), patio outlook and is located near the full bath which features a low-flow toilet, vintage sink and tile floor.
If the living and dining room wasn't enough to grab your attention then feast your eyes on this custom, Arts & Crafts inspired kitchen (2002). Arts & Crafts design, oak, quarter sawn cabinets, white oak hardwood floors, paper stone counters (originally used in commercial kitchens), Viking gas stove, Bosch dishwasher and GE Profile refrigerator, double, stainless sink, Architerra NW tile backspash. This terrific kitchen also has a bead board ceiling, an informal dining nook with a skylight (Arts & Crafts detailing, of course) and access to the private patio, deck and detached 2 car garage featuring a 220 volt circuit.
The second floor has 3 bedrooms, two with walk-in closets and one with a half bath. The western room above the front porch has French doors, partial views of Puget Sound, sunsets & the Olympic Mountains. The master bedroom looks out over the private patio, deck and lovely plantings. One of the current owners was trained in the Allan Chadwick French Intensive School of Gardening.
The unfinished basement has high ceilings, utility area, work bench, an old coal shute and access to the back yard via a stairway.
The property is almost completely surrounded by laurel hedges, cedar trees (recently assessed by local arborist Mark Harmon)and a hand built cedar fence. A list of the plantings is available upon request.
The wonders of Puget Sound are only a few minutes away by foot and you can launch your kayak from Loman Beach across the street. Walk to Lincoln Park and swim in Seattle's only outdoor, salt water swimming pool. The Fauntleroy ferry is just down the street on Fauntleroy Way SW and in 20 minutes it will whisk you away to Vashon Island.
Public open house on Sunday June 29th from 1-4 pm.
